Vitalik Buterin Donates to Earthquake Victims
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin recently made substantial contributions to help the victims of last week’s devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria. The 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck on Feb 6 with 33,000 reported dead – one of the world’s worst in decades. Buterin sent around $227,000 worth of Ether (ETH) to two Turkish earthquake relief organizations: Anka Relief and Ahbap.
Buterin’s latest donation was on Feb 12 for 50 ETH ($77K) sent to Anka Relief according to blockchain security firm PeckShield. Anka thanked the Ethereum co-founder for his contribution and said that crypto donations had been flowing since the first day of the disaster. They also provided a list of wallets that can be used for donations as well as spearheading Ukraine DAO project which raises crypto donations for aid efforts in Ukraine. In addition, Buterin previously donated 99 ETH ($150K) to Ahbap which has collected a total of 409 ETH worth over $600K at time of writing from various donors around the globe according to Etherscan records.

Anka is a Web3 relief support organization while Ahbap is a non-governmental and nonprofit organization dedicated mainly towards providing relief efforts in Turkey with their wallet accepting various tokens as donations including stablecoins which have been more popularly sent than other tokens so far according Financial Times reports this past Sunday (Feb 10).
